土合という駅をご存知だろうか。 「どあい」と読むこの駅はJR上越線、谷川岳の山中にひっそりとたたずむ無人駅である。 しかしこの小さな無人駅が、鉄道ファンのあいだでは「日本一のモグラ駅」として有名な駅なのだ。 いったい何がどんな風にモグラ駅なのか、行って確かめてきた。 (工藤 考浩) 越後湯沢から上越線で 先日のデイリーポータルZ5周年企画で金沢を訪れた帰り、せっかくなのでいつかは行ってみたいと思い続けた土合駅へ足を伸ばすことにした。 土合駅は山あいの小さな無人駅で、上り線はごく普通のホームなのだが、下り線のホームが駅舎から階段を462段も降りた地中深くにある「日本一のモグラ駅」だというのだ。 僕は地下が大好きなので、東京へ帰るには少し遠回りにはなるが、ぜひとも寄り道してみよう。 というわけで越後湯沢駅から上越線に乗り換えて、めざす土合駅へと出発した。
